Mozambique - Due to protests against higher bread prices, operations in Maputo, Mozambique have been affected since Wednesday 1^st September 2010. Many businesses remain closed and the cargo terminal at the airport is closed. Delays in service can therefore be expected.

Islamic Countries - Please note that many Islamic countries will be celebrating the Eid Al Fitr festival after the conclusion of Ramadan with extended holidays. One example is Saudi Arabia which is on a National Holiday from 9^th – 13^th September 2010.

Indonesia - A new regulation mandating the inclusion of labels in the Indonesian language on various kinds of goods to provide consumers with accurate information, will come into force on September 1, 2010 for new products with a 18 month transitional period for goods that have been circulating on the market before this Ministerial Regulation becomes effective. The products covered include: Household Electronics, Telecommunication & IT devices; Building construction material; Motor vehicle materials (spare parts and others); other commodities (e.g., footwear, leather products, toys, apparel, etc.).

China - China Customs has issued the No.43 Notice to regulate the Import and Export of Personal Shipments. With effect 1st Sep 2010, Customs will be revising the importation and exportation of personal shipments as per follows:

Formal Declaration is required for Personal shipments to and from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, if the declared shipment value is greater than 800 RMB; For all other countries, formal declaration is required, if the declared shipment value is greater than 1000RMB.

Personal shipments whose import duty is assessed at 50RMB and below will be exempted from duty.

If a shipment exceeds the above value threshold, but contains only 1 item and reasonably for personal use only, Customs may allow it to be declared as personal. (This is at the discretion of China Customs)

Shipments from overseas online or commercial companies will NOT be deemed as Personal (even if it is within the threshold) and must be declared as formal entry shipments.

With the implementation of this new regulation, China Customs may increase physical inspection for such shipments.

India - The EDI system at Kolkatta Customs will be non operational due to EDI system migration. As a result, delay is expected for all commercial export volumes picked up from 24-28 August in Kolkatta. As an interim measure, local customs authorities are allowing clearance filed manually, with shipper declaration duly signed by the shipper.

Indonesia - From August 1^st 2010, shipments destined for bonded zones to consignees in Indonesia, now require various documentation requirements and new systems, in order to be cleared. This may result in delivery delays to these areas

New Zealand - The New Zealand government has announced that the country’s Goods and Services Tax will be increased from 12.5% to 15% effective from October 1^st 2010.

Pakistan – Following the civil unrest in Karachi the situation is now, back to normal.

Pakistan - Following the previous heavy monsoon rains which have caused flashfloods and severe weather conditions in Pakistan, no service impact in the Metropolitan cities Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Sialkot and Faisalabad

Remote area deliveries to flood affected areas of Sindh, Pakhtoonkhwa and Punjab provinces will be impacted. Adverse weather conditions exception will be updated.

The Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan falls between Wednesday, August 11^th and Thursday 9^th September 2010.

During this period, many countries in the Middle East will amend their business hours. In addition, most government offices and commercial and financial companies will operate varied and reduced hours.

UPS will continue to provide operations which maintain our service commitments and minimize the impact on deliveries and pick-ups of any changes to customers’ working hours.

Cote D’Ivoire - Please note that a Customs Strike started yesterday, Monday 9^th August 2010 in Cote D’Ivoire and is scheduled to last for 3 days.
