Service Update – Tuesday 27th July
UPS have advised SendingParcels.com of the following service updates:
Greece - A few nationwide strikes have started today Monday 26 July 2010,and are in effect throughout Greece. These strikes are ongoing and for an undetermined period of time.
On strike are:
ATC personnel. They have initiated what’s referred to locally as a “White Strike”. That is, ATC personnel are strictly working according to their job guidelines (even though it is peak season for ATC staff). This is causing aircraft delays of up to 3 hours. Today’s flights have been unaffected, but there is no guarantee that future flights won’t be affected.
Large capacity Trucks used for line hauls between UPS centre’s and CPU work, are also on strike. Large capacity vehicles are being replaced with smaller type vehicles.
Fuel tank trucks are also on strike, causing long lines at the gasoline stations with delays of up to 1 hour as well a shortage in gasoline. Several gasoline stations have already ran out of fuel.
UPS Greece has initiated several contingency plans to overcome the impact of the strike situation. Delays in deliveries and pick ups may be incurred especially if fuel shortages escalate.
We are monitoring the situation and are doing everything possible to minimize the delays in deliveries and pick ups.
